Celebrating our 20th Birthday
Twenty years ago, in 1994 Terry and Sandy Kreuger felt the call of God to move to Empangeni and plant a church. This church became Thandaza Covenant Church and by God’s design would serve as a base church, to raise up leaders who would then be released to take the Gospel of Jesus to the edges of the globe. Having its humble beginnings in a warehouse and later moving to a school hall, Thandaza finally moved to its new home on the Perkins Estate, and from that day on would be known as Solid Ground Church.
On 22nd June 2014, Solid Ground Church gathered to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Joining Solid Grounders in the celebration were Alex and Michelle van Laren, who took over leadership of the church in 2000 and lead faithfully until 2009 when they handed over to Mark and Cindy Neumann, who lead the church today.
Alex shared a powerful and encouraging message drawing upon the events of the past, reminding us of all that God has done in, through and around Solid Ground Church, and urging us into the future with power and conviction. Alex drew on his own experiences in Utrecht, Holland to impart a measure of wisdom from which we can draw encouragement in tough times.
Though brief, the reunion was refreshing and exciting, with past members making the trip to share in the celebration, as well as those who could not make it sending encouraging messages of their own. Alex took time to honour Mark and Cindy for their hard work in carrying the baton and faithfully running with it.
It’s been an exciting last twenty years, so here’s to the next twenty!
